After a couple thousand burgers searching for the better burger for my burger wars, yet still within the plebeian realm of affordability, we looked at “ Alternative Burgers”  ( Sounds like a commercial for Kelly Conway of T-RUMP Distortion Land and her Alternative News) 

It simply meant, some of the better burgers might be found at places where the corporate guano king might not be involved because it interfered with his bean counting and million dollar a year salary.  Places that sold burgers as their specialty and were based on the American Fast Food Burger and all it’s incantations.  We found other specialty operations are selling burgers too and might just be applicable in the mix of things. We’ll check them out and the quality and level of good burgers might just be challenged by these alternative sources.

Then the “ PANCAKES Commercial came on the TV”  and I saw a good looking burger and since I have blessed IHOP with my presence for decades, they do know breakfast, pancakes and omelets, I decided with my faithful companion and fellow food taster Sxxxxxx to give them a shot.  She has a graduate degree in picky food eating and two generations of siblings, the pickiest eaters in the world to prove it.  The grand kids believe Mac N’ Cheese was manna from the Gods.
We had a long day shopping and dropped in for a burger, neither of us felt like cooking

I had caught the ad,  and their parking lot was 50 yards away and I was hungry.   IHOP went into the burger business, in a unique fashion.  Known for great breakfasts and lunches, they are an American Icon and are involved in other acquisitions and here is a snapshot of their profile. 

IHOP  is an acronym for International House of Pancakes) and an American multinational pancake house restaurant chain that specializes in breakfast foods. It is owned by Dine Brands Global—a company formed after IHOP's purchase of Applebee's, with 99% of the restaurants run by independent franchisees.

While IHOP's focus is on breakfast foods, it also offers a menu of lunch and dinner items. The company has 1,831 locations worldwide. While many of its locations are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the chain's minimum operating hours are Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 midnight.

Jerry Lapin, Al Lapin, and Albert Kallis founded International House of Pancakes in 1958 with the help of Sherwood Rosenberg and William Kaye. The first restaurant opened on July 18, at 4301 Riverside Drive in Burbank, California.

The breakfast food menu later expanded (especially in the 1980s) to include standard lunch and dinner items found in similar restaurant chains such as Sambo's and Denny's. From 1959 to 1975, it was the flagship division of International Industries, a holding company which also owned the Orange Julius refreshment stands.

In 1973, the chain's name was shortened to "IHOP" for marketing purposes, using a cartoon kangaroo in its commercials at the time, and since then the full name and acronym have been officially interchangeable. From 1976 onward, the company increasingly favored the acronym


WOW Batman, a real burger, the holy grail of chopped meat!  It had size, color and texture, now for the taste...real meat... Bingo, a surprise, here comes a burger, pressed to size and shape in a mold, not a frozen slab of lesser quality.  I cut it in half and it was done perfectly.  It’s actually thick!  Now heres the biggest complaint from burger tasters all over the world, they want a wet inside of the patty.  Go to Tallahassee the seat of the Florida government and complain. The patty has to be 165 degrees or higher by law. Thats the legal threshold for beef, so blame the state.

It is USDA CHOICE grade, one notch down from Prime (which usually does not fall into burgers, but reserved whole, left on the ribeye and porterhouses etc.)    It was about the size of two quarter pounders And going back to my kitchen days, I queried the server. Interesting information and upscale attributes.

It is a big, fresh made, 100% USDA CHOICE Quality not a frozen block of SELECT grade meat and doesn't touch the grill till you order it. It's called fresh! Not stockpiled as frozen hockey cubes.  All the condiments, lettuce, tomato, pickle and red onion are fresh and to order.

MY CHOICE:   There are eight variants to choose from.  Barbecue to Philly.  Garlic is my favorite word.  I had the Garlic Butter Version adding Hickory Smoked Bacon, Globs Of White Cheddar and Mayo to the above and it was 8.79 and 860 Calories.

Included are all the burgers are  ALL THE FRENCH FRIES  you can handle, reorders free, this burger is big and with the large order of fries that came with it I was stuffed, but I could have had all I wanted.   The fries too were first class, no grease, not fat, not skinny, just right.

I tripped into this one, this was the best burger so far in my quest, surprisingly  and it was I think the it was the quality of the beef,  it was consistent throughout, just enough fat content for flavor and stayed hot and fresh to the last bite.  In some other places, when the mayo gets warm the mess falls apart, the burger so flattened and smashed it was like dried rock, or poorly cooked etc.

They did a good job, the service was excellent, I believe it was Andrea, I bugged her with questions and overall a very nice experience with a touch more upscale over the other burger joints.. and the place itself was clean and modern looking. Comfortable and again good, no, call it great service.

Another thing I liked was the place was a lot quieter, more comfortable, nice clean booths, few screaming children, no Jungle Gyms, Clowns, Fake Kings or the Wendy who never followed in Dads dream of perfection…

In Burger-land thats what a touch of upscale is.
